Snow Photos

Snow Photos

Yesterday it started snowing, and my kiddos were so excited to go outside to play in it- except I couldn’t take them, because I had the stomach flu so bad, I could barely walk around! (It kicked my butt). And it was so depressing to watch our only good snowfall of the season go to waste, and for my babes to not get the chance to have some fun in it.

Baby Matthew’s Photoshoot

Baby Matthew’s Photoshoot

This weekend some friends called and asked if I could take some pictures of their one month-old baby, Matthew, so they could give their families some photos of him as Christmas gifts. Since we planned on being gone to Spokane for our anniversary on monday and tuesday but wanted to get them their photos in time, I told them to come over as soon as they could. Then I started to get a little nervous because I have never taken new born pictures before. I mean, I have taken pictures of my own babies, but I never had to think about lighting and poses and props and settings. I was also nervous because I have never used my new lens for portraits before- so I had no idea what I was doing!

Winter Photos + New Lens

Winter Photos + New Lens

I have owned my DSLR camera for about three years now, but it was only in the past couple of months that I took it off “auto” and started using the aperture priority setting. [This basically means that when I turn my aperture all the way down manually, I can get a really cool blurry background that gives my photos a little more depth]. My photos improved a LOT, but not enough…. so I asked a professional photographer & friend of mine for some advice and she told me two things. The first was to get totally rad (which are some filter plug ins for photoshop) which took my pictures to a whole new level. And the second piece of great advice was “it’s all about the lens!” And holy smokes was she right!

Braden & the Fall Leaves

Braden & the Fall Leaves

The other day my son Braden was out playing in the beautiful fall leaves, and since tomorrow is the first of December and autumn is coming to an end, I thought I would get out my camera, and take a few photos! I am really glad I did, because I just got some new radlab software, and these pictures were a lot of fun to “play” with. One new thing I am learning is “dirty pictures” which are overlays that make your photos look “dirty” or “vintage.” I am not sure how I feel about that style yet… but it was fun to play around with a little bit! Here are a few of my favourite photos:

Alberto Cruz Senior Portraits

Alberto Cruz Senior Portraits

This weekend I had the opportunity to take Alberto’s senior pictures, and it was a lot of fun! His mum came along- and made him feel extra comfortable, so he could really “be himself” which showed in his pictures. I was worried about finding cool and unique places to take them (since our little farm town is all hay-bales and tumble weeds!) But the great thing about guy pictures, is that you don’t need a really beautiful setting… the rustic backdrops we came across were perfect, and then we went to his high school football field too so we could take some pictures of him in his uniform too! He was a great “subject!” Just a really fun and photogenic guy!
