Mel & Joe’s Wedding in Greece

Last week my little sister, Mel, got married to her husband, Joe, in the beautiful Greek island of Skiathos. A few months ago she asked if I would like to be her wedding photographer, but then changed her mind, and asked if I would like to be her bridesmaid instead — which I was super excited about! She then booked a photographer on the island who wanted to charge 800 euros for 40 prints, one location, and no digital copies or copyright, so she cancelled him at last minute and asked if I wouldn’t mind being her photographer after all, alongside our other family photographers!

It worked out perfectly! My Dad {pictured with her below} was a civil engineer by profession, but did wedding photography on the side for years–so he knew how to take the ‘traditional shots’ and pose the group settings, and did a fantastic job! My older brother James has a natural flair for photography, as well as an awesome new canon with a smoking lens, so he took the beautiful candid shots of the ceremony. My brother in law Ben has the same canon fitted with a 1.4 portrait lens, and did a great job covering the evening reception… and I was left to do my absolute favorite part! All of the creative Bride & Groom shots!

Mel and Joe couldn’t have picked a more beautiful location on the entire island to have their wedding: steep stone stair-cases leading down to the crystal clear Agean sea, white greek buildings and colorful boats lining the harbor with a wooden plank extending out in front of it all, and gorgeous sandy and rocky beaches made these photos so fun to take!¬†There was beauty at every turn, but of course–the main beauty was my little sister who looked absolutely flawless!

When my sister and I were little, we used to play “photoshoots” together, so it was really special doing the “real thing” and she’s so comfortable with me and the family–that I think it showed through in the photos and made them that much better. Joe was also SO easy going, and probably one of the easiest subjects I have ever worked with in my life! I am so glad I got to spend a week in Skiathos getting to know him better and spending some much-needed girl time with my sister after three years of not seeing her! I came as an over-protective older sister to Mel, and left as a happy, well-assured sister to an amazing new brother in law! I know my sister well, which is why I can say these two were made for each other! I’m so glad I got to be a part of their special day, and capture it with the help of my amazing family beside me!
