MISC. MAY!

This is probably going to be the longest blog post I have ever made, but I didn’t make a single “personal” post this month, and thought I would write down a few highlights all in one! The weather warmed up this month, so we’ve been doing lots of fun things outside, and we booked our tickets to GREECE for this coming August! It’s been a good month….

FIRST CIRCUS
The circus came to town at the beginning of May, and some friends asked if we would like to go with them to see it. None of us had ever been to a circus before, so we had no idea what to expect. It was WAY cooler than we anticipated it to be. They had the largest collection of tigers in North America, including a white bengal tiger (which is one of my favorite animals). They did AMAZING tricks (like jumping through hoops of fire)! They also had elephants and elephant rides! The acrobats were incredible, and the clowns were so hilarious. What surprised me though, was how much Gemma liked the clowns! There were some watching the show in the audience, and Gemma just wanted to go and sit with them, rather than watch the amazing animals and performers! We got the best front-row seats, and tons of candy-floss (cotton candy) and treats, so the kids were really happy, and really, we couldn’t have had a better experience for our first trip to the circus! I hope it won’t be our last.

Thursday May 2nd

Every thursday morning we get together for a play date with some of our friends. The weather’s finally beautiful enough to go outside and play at the park and have picnics which the kids love! I decided to take my camera along to this play date to capture a few fun memories! Just because every Mum needs pictures of her kids playing at the park!

Mothers Day

On the saturday before mothers day my husband took both the kids into town with him to do some shopping, and it kinda felt as if mothers day had come early, because I had the most easy, relaxing morning since I can remember! My son Braden, who’s 4, told my husband that I really missed my I-pad. {I lost it when we were visiting Seattle this fall}, so for mothers day I got a new I-pad mini! My husband is SO sweet and generous, and loves giving electronics as gifts {it’s kind of his ‘thing’ as a computer programmer}, and the kids did SUCH an amazing job at keeping it a secret! In fact, Gemma told me I was getting a bracelet, so now I know who NOT to listen to! Haha. They also got me flowers and a couple of adorable cards, which I will treasure!

I think mother’s day is one of my absolute favorite days of the entire year and it just seems to get better and better the older my children get! This was the first year i’ve had a kid whose been old enough to sing up on the stand at church. I know this sounds crazy, but I have been watching kids get up there for YEARS and was so excited for the day I would have a kid to watch up there. Braden told me he didn’t want to get up because he was too shy, but I kinda bribed him, and he went up happy. Then a little girl right next to him started crying, and set him off…. first you could see the panic in his eyes, then the bottom lip fall, then he starts rubbing his eyes, and my heart is just breaking! He sees grandma at the back of the room and just BOLTS to her as fast as he can! Poor Braden. {I wonder if he’s too traumatized to go up there in time for Father’s day?} Ha! He was just so CUTE up there!!

Here are some of my favorite photos from mothers day. Here’s us in the morning ready to go to church:

My new gift: I put about 90% kid apps on it, so really it’s a gift for them too! ;-) But I LOVE it! SONY DSC

After church we went to Grandma’s to play! She had a new huge inflatable ball. My son said he was “pippin” his pet hamster in the ball. I think my husband actually had more fun with it than the kids did though… SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSC

In the afternoon we got the Harley’s out! We took the kids for a ride around the drive-way, {which my son LOVED because he is obsessed with motorbikes!} Then we all went for a quick ride to visit my husbands grandma on mothers day.

And some CRAZY motorbike hair! P.S. Note how I took a picture of Braden’s and NOT mine! SONY DSC

I wasn’t prepared to go on a ride, so I still had my church dress and high heels on! SONY DSC

When we got back we lit up the Harley Fire-Ball. When my father in law was out on vacation in the Caribbean one time, they had a full-moon party where they lit up this huge fireball, and he thought it was so awesome, he came home and made a Harley themed one, which looks pretty sweet when it’s all fired up at night.SONY DSC SONY DSC

My father in law playing the Ukulele while we all chill and chat round the fire, and my beautiful mother in law on mothers day. I am SO grateful to have a mother in law like her! She is SO kind, generous and thoughtful, LIVES for her kids and grandkids, and makes me feel as if i’m literally her daughter and a part of the family. SONY DSC SONY DSC SONY DSCI’m also grateful to have been raised by THE BEST mother, ever! She was SO patient, generous, unselfish, kind and loving that motherhood just came naturally to her–and so she made raising all seven of us look like a total breeze (which has kind of thrown me off-guard just a bit!) Haha. We would always go shopping together and chat and giggle like we were best friends (the more “serious” the place or situation where we should NOT get the giggles, the more we would get the giggles; like during parent-teacher consultations with my high school science teacher who hated me!) Growing up my mum and I had so much fun together, and she definitely set the precedent on how to be an amazing mother, so I have a lot to live up to.

Family Night 05.20.13

Pretty much every night is “family night” in our home, since we’re usually all here, and all together, but on monday nights we make a little extra effort to go and do something fun together as a family. Dean is usually the “fun one” who comes up with all the cool ideas. Tonight we went all the way to tricities to take the kids roller-skating, only to realize that the arena was closed on mondays and tuesdays! Instead we went out to dinner at one of those cool sushi bars that rotates the dishes around, and you just pick what you want. Braden literally begged us to take him there! I feel so proud to have such “cultural” children, but really, I think he just goes for the mochi balls. Which was sad, because we found out they don’t serve mochi balls on mondays! :-( He also likes playing with chop sticks; it’s really funny to watch kids get creative eating with chop-sticks! Having said that… i’m not much better myself, so…

After sushi we went to the mall to check out a new pottery-painting place that just opened up. Braden wanted to paint a ceramic chicken, but I managed to convince him to paint himself a mug, so he could actually use it! We actually spent the afternoon painting watercolors–and I noticed the SAME exact pattern from my kids in this ceramics store: Braden gets tons of bright, beautiful colors and immediately mixes them all to make brown. Then paints everything in brown, and is finishes in 5 minutes. Gemma delicately paints her pink and purple master-piece, making sure not to get a drop of paint on her, and is done in about 2 hours! Haha. She could sit there and paint all day if I let her, but I helped her out to hurry her along a little (after all, Braden was done really fast, and was ready to go). After, we went to a frozen yoghurt bar for dessert. I held Braden’s and we hurried back to the car to eat it before it melted — Braden said: “Mum, don’t drop mine! Because if you drop mine, I will have to eat all of yours!” Haha. It’s just funny that it came out of a 4 year old’s mouth! Oh I love my sweet kids, and we had such a fun family night together!

05/28/12
Recently a big, indoor trampolining place opened up in tricities called “Get Air” which all our friends and family have been raving about. It’s always so busy on the weekends, so today we took some of our good friends, and went at noon when it opened and we had the whole place to ourselves which was so cool!
I had way more fun than I was expecting… the place just had trampolines as far as you can see, some with basketball hoops and foam balls for dodge ball, and of course foam pits to jump in…. and get stuck in! It wasn’t only quite the work our jumping for an hour straight, but i’m telling ya–getting out of one of those pits is pretty darn near impossible! The guys had mad back-flipping skills! The little boys just loved throwing the balls around and jumping in the foam (okay, getting thrown in the foam!) And Gemma just loved using the trampolines as slides, so everyone had an absolute blast and we can’t wait to go again soon! P.S. Excuse the lame pics! Sometimes I just want to have fun and jump around and NOT have to worry about my camera & taking pics!
