Damon, Jessica & Daxtin’s Photoshoot

My brother in law Damon is off to Idaho next week to start a new college and a new life down in Idaho — and i’m really going to miss him and his sweet little family! :-( My sister in law Jessica asked if I would take some family photos for them before they left, so she would have something to decorate her new place with, and I happily agreed, not only because I love them and they’re family, but because she has been SO helpful to me, so this was the least I could do!

I feel as if every photo-shoot I go on is a new adventure– but this one was definitely one of the craziest yet! I was so glad I was with family for this shoot, and not some brand new client I just met (because I would have been so embarrassed!) Literally five minutes into the photo-shoot, my shoe breaks! Jessica and I tried to patch it up with some band-aids (improvising with all we had in the car!) which of course didn’t hold all that great–so i’m hobbling around the rugged Mattawa outback! We try to get to the “Canyon” but take the wrong turn, and end up on the backside of it, where there are tons of poisonous snakes! A rattlesnake slithered right in front of us as we were parked in the car! I was so excited to see and hear a rattlesnake in the “wild” for the first time ever… people have told me there are lots of snakes in Mattawa, and now I finally believe them! Haha.

SONY DSCDamon went out to chase it… he’s a country boy, rattler’s don’t scare him! (His sport growing up was catching and skinning them) but that’s another story for another day! So we park up, baby’s fast asleep in the car so we decide to get a few ‘couple shots’ in. The light is SO bright, that we’re just walking further and further away from the car trying to find some shade… then we start getting attacked by a SWARM of mosquitos! Usually I don’t notice bites until I get home, but these ones were BIG and they hurt! So we’re trying to run back to the car, my patched up flip flop obviously just busts it’s bandaids and i’m hobbling for dear life like a crazy, then Damon is casually heading straight for a rock with a HUGE black snake on it, and I scream like someone just died (or was about to) because I honestly thought that snake was going to get him; until we saw it was dead. Phew!
SONY DSCThen we finally get back in the car, shut the door, kill off any mosquitos lingering on our arms and legs, and we are DONE with photos for the night. Haha. No one wants to get out the car, even if there is beauty everywhere we turn! (Well, almost everywhere!) Haha. Not on that rock! We saw tons of beautiful blue flowers growing wildly in fields of long grass, there was a pond hidden amongst trees with a large pheasant in it, an old foundation of a house all over-grown! I LOVE photography, because it opens up my eyes to all the beauty that surrounds me here in the Mattawa countryside!

Anyway, despite a few minor ‘set backs,’ we still managed to get a lot of beautiful shots in! Damon promised not to pull all of his usual silly faces… his exact text was: “Damon doesn’t behave!” Haha. This little family was so beautiful, happy and photogenic! Pretty much the dream combination for any photographer. Usually it takes a lot of work to get babies to look at a camera and smile, but we found out early on that Daxtin just likes me blowing raspberries… so that was easy! Those big smiles and chubby red rosy cheeks just made all the pictures beautiful! So it really wasn’t me… I give him full credit for these. Partially Damon too because he was a good sport. And a lot Jessica because her hair was flawless! (I don’t know how she does that!) Here are some of my favourite shots:

But at least it was a good one! ;-)

I hope you love your photos guys! Because I LOVED taking them for you!
