2nd Easter, New Pets and Bike Riding

A few exciting things have happened in the past couple of weeks!

My four-year old son Braden came up to me and said: “Mum, Mum, I have a new balancing act to show you!” Then picked up his bike and started riding it like a pro without his training wheels. I was so proud of him! YAY!

I decided to enroll him in Mattawa pre-school for this coming September. He’ll just go half days 5 days a week until he starts Kindergarten the following year… I need to make the most of having my {not so little} guy at home with me this spring and summer!

First Pests, I mean “pets”
Dean and I took our kiddos into town a few days ago, and we stopped by the pet store on our way home, just to let them look at the animals. We’re probably the only people in Mattawa I know of who don’t own an animal of any kind–so the least we could do was let them look at some. Yeah…. we came home with 2 new pet hamsters. We’re total suckers. I can see now that the kids really needed something to nurture besides baby-dolls and stuffed monkeys (I mean, toy ones, not freaky real ones). They treat these hamsters like their babies, and they’re probably the most spoilt, loved little rodents on the planet. (The hamsters, not my kids) I am just getting confusing here. I was kind of opposed to having “mice” in the house… but I loved my hamsters growing up, so who was I to say no? Plus, they’re a LOT easier than a puppy or kitten!

Dean got the hamsters in secret while I put the kids in the car, and then we both gave them a little box and let them open it to find their first pets inside. To say they were excited would be an understatement! I’m so glad we did it just to see those adorable faces light up!

Braden puts his hamster “Sandy” in the hamster ball, and then strolls it around the house in his sisters’ push chair… I know that sounds kind of cruel, but she’s strapped in and can’t go anywhere! I only allow it for a couple of minutes, and by then the little thing is usually fast asleep.

They like to sit and hold them in the hamster balls (because they’re too fast to let out!) SONY DSCSONY DSC

Gemma was so disgusted when her hamster pooped in the hamster ball, that she gagged and literally threw up on the spot! She has such a weak stomach (sadly like her mother!) And has done that a couple of times now!

 2nd Easter

This weekend we had a family get together for “2nd Easter.” My mother in law had so many fun plans for Easter that we never got the chance to do, so we had a LOT of fun doing them two weeks later! On friday night we had an Easter Egg hunt for the adults with money and gift cards inside
SONY DSCHere we are ready to go! My sister in law Kristen was by far the best and found 20 in the first half hour…{while I had found TWO} My awesome brother in law Dex gave me two of his! He is my new favorite! Then there were two or three left at the end that NO ONE could find anywhere!!! My poor inlaws house was completely raided and looked as if they’d been robbed! Next year the weather has to be good so we can go outside!

Of course the kids got a big, fun Easter egg hunt too… and way too much candy for the second time this holiday! ;-) Here are the cousins ready to go with their bags… we let the girls go 30 seconds before the boys to give them some kind of a chance!

The weather was really crappy, but we had fun playing cards and games, going swimming, having dance parties! And just generally hanging out

I think everyone had a blast celebrating 2nd Easter! Even if it did wear some of us out…. SONY DSC
