Best Turkey Burgers

This weekend we have had absolutely PERFECT weather up here in Mattawa, and since I didn’t want to spend a second inside–I decided to cook outside too. I don’t have a whole lot of experience with grilling because my husband is such a pro, so I usually leave it up to him… but this Spring/summer I have decided to learn how to grill all kinds of yummy things myself! I decided to start with something delicious and simple–turkey burgers. I hadn’t ever even tried a turkey burger before today, but after trying this recipe, I would take one over a hamburger any day!! I found a recipe that combined ground turkey with Italian turkey sausage, so they were juicy and FULL of flavor. Topped with some veggies on a whole wheat bun, they’re also a heck of a lot healthier than regular burgers too–so this is definitely an awesome recipe to have on hand this Spring/Summer.

Ingredients:
1 package (about 1.3lbs) 93/7 lean ground turkey
6 Italian turkey sausage links (about 1 1/4lbs)
½ tsp freshly ground black pepper
2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
2 tsp Grainy Dijon mustard
8 wheat hamburger buns
(toppings)
lettuce
Cheese (Sharp Cheddar/Gruyere would work well)
Tomato
Red onion
Pickles (optional)

Directions:
Pre-heat your grill to high (about 400degF). Remove the casings of the sausage links. Add the sausage, ground turkey, black pepper, worcestershire sauce and mustard to a bowl.
Mix with your hands then form 6 large patties (or 8 smaller ones). Place them on a foil lined baking tray. Oil the grate, then place the patties on the grill, close the lid, and cook for 5 minutes on one side. There should be nice grill marks on your burger like this: Turn them over, and cook for 5 more minutes.
Place your favorite cheese on top, close the lid and heat for a minute more until it melts.
Place the burgers in a whole wheat bun and top with lettuce, tomatoes, & red onionI’m not really much of a burger person, but I could definitely eat these on a regular basis! They’re SO GOOD!! If you’ve never tried a turkey burger before, I think you’d be pleasantly surprised!!

Hope the weather is warming up wherever you are, and that you’re all getting your grills on too!
