Best Hot Chocolate

Best Hot Chocolate

I have been kind of addicted to chocolate dipped cookies this season, but I always seem to melt way too much chocolate, and am not sure what to do with what’s left. So after making my chocolate dipped shortbread this weekend, I decided to use the rest of the chocolate in my “hot chocolate experiment.” I have never made hot chocolate from scratch before, hence the “experiment” part!

Sarah’s Shortbread Recipe

Sarah’s Shortbread Recipe

To me there are few cookies more Christmassy than shortbread, so I thought I’d make up a big batch, and wrap them up really pretty to go in the young women’s christmas bags on sunday. I researched recipes for quite some time, and settled on two, which I thought looked really awesome! They only had 3-4 ingredients, and one only baked for 12 minutes, so this was definitely the type of cookie I wanted to make for a big group of 20 girls! I put my babes to bed around 8, and began working on them.

Cornish Game Hens with Shallots & Rosemary

Cornish Game Hens with Shallots & Rosemary

Every sunday after church, I try to make a meal that’s a little more “special” like a roast, because it was a family tradition I loved growing up, that I would like to continue for my own family. I’ve already attempted Beef Wellington, roast beef with yorkshires, and roast chicken… and this sunday I thought I would attempt something a little more daring.

Amazing Cinnamon Rolls

Amazing Cinnamon Rolls

I am really excited to finally have my mother in law’s cinnamon roll recipe! You have no idea how long it took for me to get this, and right as I gave up asking for it, she sent it to me! We actually made them together last month…. Okay, she made them, and I hovered & took a few pictures, but now I know how, hopefully mine will turn out just as good! And actually, the timing’s not way off, because they’d make a pretty awesome Christmas breakfast!

Christmas Cards & Magnets

Last week I made an advent calendar (which I just fixed and updated) and I had a lot of scrap booking paper left over that I was wondering what to do with.  I love making cards, but I already sent out family photo cards from shutterfly. Then I got assigned to do the young women’s Christmas gift bags, and part of it included a cute photo of all the girls- so I thought, perfect! I will make cards to put the photos inside, and all of us leaders can write a nice Christmas message. The only problem I had was that I didn’t want to commercialize Christmas, and take away the true meaning- so I ended up improvising with some sweet messages that were on the scrap book paper, and by writing “joy” and “peace” on a few of them. They’re kind of… not as good as I was hoping they’d be, but when you have 20 to make you kind of forget perfectionisms!
