Amazing Cinnamon Rolls
15 Dec 2011
I am really excited to finally have my mother in law’s cinnamon roll recipe! You have no idea how long it took for me to get this, and right as I gave up asking for it, she sent it to me! We actually made them together last month…. Okay, she made them, and I hovered & took a few pictures, but now I know how, hopefully mine will turn out just as good! And actually, the timing’s not way off, because they’d make a pretty awesome Christmas breakfast!
Here’s what you’ll need for the roll dough:
3 cups warm water
3 Tbls instant yeast
1 cup white sugar
1 Tbls salt
1/3 cup vegetable oil
8 cups flour
Directions:
Add oil, salt and enough flour to make a soft dough.
Do not over mix. It should look something like this:
Let rise until double in warm space. Punch down, roll out half the dough recipe into a rectangle shape.
Slather 1/2 to 1 cube softened butter over dough, sprinkle cinnamon and 3 Tbsp white sugar
then crumble 2/3 – 1 cup brown sugar evenly over dough rectangle.
Roll loosely and cut even slices of dough.
Place on cookie sheet. Let rise. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-18 minutes. Glaze…powdered sugar, whipping cream and vanilla or your favorite cream cheese frosting.
I <3 this recipe! I must admit, I was tempted to go online and try and find my own cinnamon roll recipe- but I held out, because I knew I wouldn’t find a better one. This one is just pretty perfect. At least it’s the one i’ve been accustomed to, so i’m pretty biased!
Anyway, I hope you enjoy it guys!
Love, Sarah

Found your blog through a sis-in-law (I’m married to one of the Yorgesen boys) and am excited to try this recipe. I just have one question though… In the directions after the dough rises, it says to roll out HALF the dough into a rectangle. Yet I never saw anything else about the other half being used. Was that amount of butter/sugar/cinnamon really just for half of the dough, or was it the entire batch of dough rolled out into the rectangle? Thanks for the clarification.

I’m not a consistent baker, but I think there are some missing instructions? It’s been years since I’ve made bread, so I don’t remember!!! Your instructions don’t say what to do with the water, yeast and sugar! Please help!!! I know I’m going to be making these with my grandkids – I have fond memories of baking them with my mom when I was really little!
