Braden & the Fall Leaves

Braden & the Fall Leaves

The other day my son Braden was out playing in the beautiful fall leaves, and since tomorrow is the first of December and autumn is coming to an end, I thought I would get out my camera, and take a few photos! I am really glad I did, because I just got some new radlab software, and these pictures were a lot of fun to “play” with. One new thing I am learning is “dirty pictures” which are overlays that make your photos look “dirty” or “vintage.” I am not sure how I feel about that style yet… but it was fun to play around with a little bit! Here are a few of my favourite photos:

Yum-ee Banoffee Pie

Last week at thanksgiving I attempted to make my favourite English pie for my American family to try, and it was a complete disaster! In my first attempt, I followed a quick & easy “cheater” version which consisted of boiling sweetened condensed milk with butter and sugar to form caramel… and it was gross! (There are lots of recipes for banoffee pie out there using dulce de leche, but it just tastes like sweetened condensed milk with a bad texture and is no where near as good as the real thing!!) So then I decided to try the authentic, but very time-consuming recipe- where you boil the sweetened condensed milk for 3 hours to get toffee…. but after opening it, it exploded all over my kitchen! Then I opened another can an hour later, (very bravely) and it was black inside!…. So I didn’t have very much luck. More

Recipe Boxes

I have a lot of recipes that i’ve gathered from friends and family, cook books, magazines online recipe sites and blogs since i’ve been married, and one day, when I looked in my cupboard full of “dog-earred” recipe books, torn-out magazine pages and printed papers, I decided I needed a cute and convenient way to collect and store all of my favourite recipes so that I could find them quicker & easier–and so I made this recipe box:

Thank You Cards

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!
I wanted to take a quick moment to post some thank you cards I made last night, since today is all about being thankful! The paper’s called “summer’s end” by fancy pants designs, and I did a few different layouts, so you can copy whichever ones you like!
Now i’m off to eat way too much good food & spend time with my awesome family! I hope you all have a fabulous day! Love, Sarah

Maple Creme brulee

My husband doesn’t really like sweets or desserts- he’d much rather have a chicken pot pie to an apple pie, and would choose cheese over chocolate every time…but the one dessert he does love is creme brulee! So I thought i’d learn how to make one, and it was actually quite scary! Something about pouring boiling hot water into a pan that’s in a super hot oven is a little intimidating, and I almost burnt myself for the first time ever, but aside from that- it was actually surprisingly simple to make!
